Navy Blue Velvet Empire Waisted
1960's/1970's Minidress
|
It is hard to do
Original 1960's or 1970's Empire Waisted Minidresses
justice without seeing them on. Think Marlo Thomas in That Girl
circa 1963. During that time period this dress would have been considered
elegant cocktail attire. Now it is likley fated to a theme party or as an
Audrey Hepburn look in Breakfast at Tiffany's, that's a classy Halloween costume
idea.
In any case, this dress is in great condition and its rich very deep royal blue
or navy color absorbs one's gaze. The dress appears to be in flawless
condition, but don't hold me to that just in case there is some very tiny
blemish somewhere on it (I doubt it though). The dress is vintage, but I don't
think it has even ever been worn. It was in my store and people tried it
on, but I would not rent it and no one in this part of the country appreciates
the early to mid 60's style minidress....So here it is.
The cut is basically empire wasted possessing a conservative length.
It has been shortened at sometime in its past so perhaps it was a full length
gown at some time. One can't tell it has been hemmed unless one looks
underneath it where there is a very generous hem. It has a zipper back and
a
Franklin Simon of New York
tag in it. I can't guarantee its authenticity, but I know I'd never have
the energy to sew in a tag!
I would say this is probably a
size 7/8.
The chest is 35" - 36", probably fitting either a 34C or a 36B. The hips
measure 38", a comfortable size 7 or 8 I believe. The arm holes are nicely
sized, not oddly small as in some vintage dresses. It has a back zipper.
The dress has a simple, yet timeless and
classic cut. It would be great for a coctail party for those who like to
wear vintage.
This
COMFORTABLY CUT
little number would also be quite striking at a 1960's
or 70s Party. It is probably a today's
Size 7/8.
The length is probably best for people between 5'4" to 5' 10".
It would look great with either my
silver go go boots,
a pair of maryjanes
or my silver glitter platform
sandals.
